The eagle in Chinese art during the Qing dynasty is known to symbolize the hero. Its pronunciation in Chinese ,ying ,is a component for yingxiong (hero). The motif of a solemn-looking eagle on rocks or combined with a bear was particularly favored by the Qianlong emperor but was also used as a motif during the Jiaqing and later periods.
